Theatre
University theatre is an extracurricular student activity with enormous relevance and historical tradition in the cultural life of the University of Lisbon (ULisboa), as shown by the biographies of some of the most important figures in our culture, politics and science.
In 1954, the Faculty of Law’s 'Grupo Cénico' was founded, the first ULisboa theatre group and one of the oldest in Portugal. With this, academic theatre’s importance to the university has been attested to, for over half a century, by the longevity, the national and international recognition of its theatre groups, and as well by the creation of FATAL – Lisbon’s Annual Academic Theatre Festival in 1999.
There are currently 10 theatre groups at ULisboa. Performing theatre shows, performances organising workshops and taking part in theatre festivals are part of their activities.
