Community Nursing in the area of Family Health Nursing
Develop skills in specialized community nursing care that promote the training of families, groups and communities with a view to the population’s health gains in an interdisciplinary, interprofessional and intersectoral approach
Train for evidence-based practice collaborating in the production of knowledge that contributes to the personal, professional and institutional development of community nursing
Develop skills that allow lifelong learning autonomously, contributing to the (re) construction of planning and implementation of interventions at the level of community nursing
Develop skills for the decision-making process in complex and unpredictable situations, at the level of community nursing, according to the principles of ethics and professional deontology Develop communication skills effectively to disseminate knowledge and research results in community nursing
Graduates of the Master's Degree in Community Nursing in the area of Family Health Nursing are qualified with a master's degree, level 7 of the QNQ, and if they hold the professional title of nurse, with two years of professional experience and have completed the Internship with Report modality, they are eligible to apply to the Order of Nurses for the title of Specialist Nurse, as they have the specific and common skills required for specialised nursing care in highly complex situations, for leadership of care and teams, for the production and dissemination of scientific knowledge, and for the development of innovative solutions applied to practice in Family Health Nursing. They may pursue their professional activity in three distinct sectors: the public sector, the private sector, and private practice, as well as in various contexts (health centres, hospitals, clinics, companies, schools, family health units, personalised health care units, NGOs, among others).
Access and ingress
Candidates who meet one of the following conditions may enter: • Hold a Nursing Degree with at least 240 ECTS, or legal equivalent, obtained from a Portuguese higher education institution; / • Hold a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing with at least 240 ECTS, awarded following a 1st cycle of studies organized in accordance with the principles of the Bologna Process by a State adhering to this process
Teaching activities take place mostly in the after-work regime, some of which may be diurnal. The internships are diurnal or in shifts, following the activity of the guiding nurses.
