Master’s in Medical-Surgical Nursing - Critical Care
Promote the development of knowledge in the context of critical care that supports the practice of specialized nursing.
Provide the development of skills for the provision, management and supervision of advanced nursing care to the sick person in
critical condition and to the family during their illness and recovery process.
Encourage the integration of scientific evidence in the practice of health professionals and in the organization of care for people in
critical situations.
Encourage critical analysis of the ethical, legal, political, social and economic dimensions resulting from the practice.
Encourage the articulation of theoretical and scientific knowledge in nursing and other disciplines in different contexts of practice.
Graduates of the Master’s in Medical-Surgical Nursing - Critical Care are qualified with a master's degree, level 7 of the QNQ, and if they hold the professional title of nurse, with two years of professional experience and have completed the Internship with Report modality, they are eligible to apply to the Order of Nurses for the title of Specialist Nurse, since they have the specific and common skills for specialised nursing care in highly complex situations, for the leadership of care and teams, the production and dissemination of scientific knowledge and the development of innovative solutions applied to practice in Medical-Surgical Nursing. They may develop their professional activity in three distinct sectors: the public sector, the private sector and in private practice (Pre-Hospital Emergency, Hospitals, Intensive Care Units, Clinics, Urgent and Emergency Units, among others).
Access and ingress
Hold a Nursing Degree with at least 240 ECTS, or legal equivalent, obtained from a Portuguese higher education institution;

• Hold a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing with at least 240 ECTS, awarded following a 1st cycle of studies organized in accordance with the
principles of the Bologna Process by a State adhering to this process
Teaching activities take place mostly in the after-work regime, some of which may be diurnal. The internships are diurnal or in shifts, following the activity of the guiding nurses.
