Medical Surgical Nursing - Palliative Care
Develop a practice of nursing care in situations of greater complexity, addressing human responses to life processes and health problems of the client and family in palliative situations, in the hospital and community context
Act according to ethical-deontological and legal obligations, promoting security, respecting human rights and professional responsibilities
Lead teams and processes in the field of nursing and health care
Conduct processes for the use, production and dissemination of scientific knowledge and the creation of original nursing projects
Start innovation and sustained changes in knowledge, collaboration and consultation, in multidisciplinary contexts
Communicate with the palliative person and family, in a therapeutic context and with the public, specialist or not, in other contexts
Assume their professional development, promoting discipline and valuing the profession.
Graduates of the Master's Degree in Medical Surgical Nursing - Palliative Care are qualified with a master's degree, level 7 of the QNQ, and if they hold the professional title of nurse, with two years of professional experience and have completed the Internship with Report modality, are eligible to apply to the Order of Nurses for the title of Specialist Nurse, as they have the specific and common skills to:
• provide specialised nursing care in highly complex situations with people in palliative care and their families in any context, particularly in specialised palliative care teams, combining science, practice, ethical reflection and self-knowledge;
• leadership of care and teams;
• the production and dissemination of scientific knowledge and the creation of original applications;
• initiating innovation and sustained changes in knowledge in multidisciplinary contexts.
They may develop their specialised professional activity in specialised palliative care teams (Intra-hospital Palliative Care Support Teams, Community Palliative Care Support Teams, Palliative Care Inpatient Units) or in non-specialised contexts where there are people with palliative care needs and families.
Access and ingress
Hold a Nursing Degree with at least 240 ECTS, or legal equivalent, obtained from a Portuguese higher education institution; / • Hold a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing with at least 240 ECTS, awarded following a 1st cycle of studies organized in accordance with the principles of the Bologna Process by a State adhering to this process.
Teaching activities take place mostly in the after-work regime, some of which may be diurnal. The internships are diurnal or in shifts, following the activity of the guiding nurses.
