Medical-Surgical Nursing to the Person in Perioperative Situation
1. Promote autonomy, professional responsibility, ethics, and legality through lifelong learning, which favors a therapeutic, safe environment and the implementation/development of continuous improvement projects; 2. Train for reflective, innovative, specialized practice based on scientific evidence in perioperative care for individuals, families, and significant others; 3. Develop skills in nursing care organization and management models, modeling leadership and resource management according to the needs of the surgical context; 4. Develop the ability to cooperate at work and make decisions as part of a healthcare team; 5. Train students in the use, production, communication, and dissemination of scientific knowledge in perioperative nursing; 6. Promote professional development, discipline in the field of perioperative nursing knowledge, and add value to healthcare.
Graduates of the Master's Degree in Medical-Surgical Nursing to the Person in Perioperative Situation obtain a master's degree (level 7 of the QNQ) and are eligible for the title of Specialist Nurse, provided they meet the requirements established by the Order of Nurses, namely: holding the professional title of nurse, having two years of professional experience and having completed the Internship with Report course unit. As specialist nurses, they can perform professional duties in the public, private or liberal sectors. Their intervention encompasses all phases of perioperative care, namely: the preoperative consultation, through to their work in the operating theatre (conventional, outpatient or specialised), covering skills in anaesthesia, circulation and instrumentation, as well as work in the post-anaesthesia recovery unit and in the postoperative consultation.
Access and ingress
Hold a Nursing Degree with at least 240 ECTS, or legal equivalent, obtained from a Portuguese higher education institution; / • Hold a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing with at least 240 ECTS, awarded following a 1st cycle of studies organized in accordance with the principles of the Bologna Process by a State adhering to this process.
