First masters graduates from ULisboa School Shanghai receive their diplomas in Shanghai

November 17th and 18th, 2025, were marked by two important moments in the life of ULisboa School, Shanghai University—the school that the University of Lisbon has been running in Shanghai, in partnership with Shanghai University, since 2022.

ULisboa School, Shanghai University offers three bachelor's degrees and three master's degrees in Civil Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Environmental Engineering. On the ULisboa side, degrees are awarded through the , , and . In total, the school currently has around 750 students.

The graduation ceremony for the first master's students took place on November 17th. Classes began in 2023/2024, so dissertation discussions took place in 2025. Around 60 students will complete the course this year. These are the first master's graduates from ULisboa in China.

The Joint Management Committee of ULisboa School, Shanghai University, the highest governing body of the partnership, met on November 18th. At this meeting, the activities already carried out were reviewed and future actions were planned.

Both events took place at Shanghai University in Shanghai. Representing ULisboa were the Vice-Rector, Prof. João Peixoto, representatives of three of the ULisboa Schools involved in the activities of the ULisboa School (Prof. Isabel Dias, Prof. Miguel Teixeira, and Dr. Nuno Pedroso, from IST; Prof. Luís Carriço, from FCUL; and Dr. Sónia Azevedo, for ISA) and the Vice-President of ULisboa School, Prof. Pedro Silva Girão.

The graduation ceremony was also attended by ULisboa professors who were in Shanghai at the time and who travel there periodically to teach the bachelor's and master's degree classes for which we are responsible. In addition to professors from the IST-Técnico Lisboa, Faculty of Sciences, and Instituto Superior de Agronomia (ISA) School of Agriculture, professors from the ISEG Lisbon School of Economics and Management and the Faculty of Arts and Humanities are also involved.
